A Brave Halloween

Happy Halloween!  Just kidding!  I know it isn’t Halloween any longer.  It is almost Christmas at this point…better late than never!  Since I am so far behind on my posts for this fall, I figured I would stick with it and still get those posts thrown in.  Last year I started what may become a theme and dressed as a Disney Princess for Halloween.  Last year was Ariel from The Little Mermaid.  I made her sail “dress”, had a stuffed Sebastian alongside (in my pocket) and had the red wig to complete the ensemble.

This year I decided to expand my sewing horizons and create something from a pattern.  I have many Disney Princess looks that I am toying around with for future Halloweens, but this year, I landed on Princess Merida from Brave.  Although I had to modify the pattern a bit to ensure accuracy, it turned out both harder and easier than I had imagined.  The key point here: time.  With patience and time almost any pattern can be made.  And a lot of help (and patience)  from your Mother-In-Law!  This was the first dress I have ever made from start to finish and it turned out much better than I could of hoped for, but again, would have been impossible without the immense help I received from my Mother-In-Law.  Bless her heart for putting up with my panic attacks!

Enjoy the pictures I was able to talk my husband into taking before we went off to work on Halloween morning.  It was a fun (and warm!) costume to wear.  I even got to shoot my suction arrows all day!

There are those who say fate is something beyond our command. That destiny is not our own, but I know better. Our fate lives within us, you only have to be brave enough to see it.
